A HISTORIC FIRST
The Margalya Press Tiqqunei ha-Zohar is the first complete translation of Tiqqunei ha-Zohar into English or any other Western language, opening one of the great works of Jewish mysticism to a new world of readers.
AN AUTHORITATIVE TEXT
The translation is based on the celebrated 1740 Constantinople (Qushta) edition, long regarded as a definitive edition of Tiqqunei ha-Zohar.
The publication preserves distinctive elements of that edition, including its introductions, haskamot (approbations) and mystical "star paths".
ARAMAIC AND ENGLISH, FACE TO FACE
Traditionally, Zoharic literature appears in dense blocks of Aramaic text. In the Margalya Press Tiqqunei ha-Zohar, the Aramaic has been carefully restructured into short, readable lines.
The English translation mirrors this structure phrase by phrase on the facing page, allowing readers to move easily between the original Aramaic and its English translation while revealing the remarkable cadence and poetic qualities of the original text.
FIFTEEN YEARS IN THE MAKING
The Margalya Press Tiqqunei ha-Zohar is the culmination of fifteen years of work: a decade devoted to the translation itself, followed by five years of editing, design, typesetting, and production.
The result is an edition conceived not simply to make Tiqqunei ha-Zohar available in English, but to create a text that can be read, studied, and returned to over a lifetime.

ABOUT THE TRANSLATION
David Solomon has sought to reproduce not only the meaning of the Aramaic but something of its structure, rhythm and character.
Rather than imposing a literary interpretation upon the text, the translation follows the original closely. Its phrase-by-phrase structure allows readers with some Aramaic to compare the languages directly, while making the text accessible to those encountering Tiqqunei ha-Zohar entirely through English.
The unusual presentation also reveals something often obscured by the traditional block format of Zoharic printing: the highly rhythmic, associative and at times poetic nature of the text itself.

What is Tiqqunei ha-Zohar?
Tiqqunei ha-Zohar is one of the principal works of the Zoharic corpus and one of the most influential texts in the history of Kabbalah.
Structured around seventy tiqqunim —sections or chapters — the work begins with interpretations of the first word of the Torah, Bereishit, and develops into an extraordinary exploration of Torah, language, divine structure, exile, redemption and the inner dimensions of Jewish religious life.
How does Tiqqunei ha-Zohar differ from the Zohar?
While both texts provide foundational and profound explorations of numerous
topics of mysticism, they differ in style and subject matter. The Zohar
offers a mystical commentary on the entire Torah. Tiqqunei ha-Zohar,
on the other hand, comprises 70 chapters of commentary, known as tiqqunim,
on the first word of the Torah: "Be-reishyt" ("In-the-beginning"). Although both texts are written in Aramaic, the literary style varies significantly between the two texts.
Why do you spell it "Tiqqunei ha-Zohar" and not "Tikunei Zohar"?
Margalya Press uses the scholarly Hebrew/Aramaic to English translation convention in which a qof (ק) is represented as 'q' rather than 'k'.
Other examples of this convention are the English representation of ḥet (ח) as 'ḥ', and khaf (כ) and final khaf (ך) as 'kh'.
Are there other translations of Tiqqunei ha-Zohar?
Unlike the Zohar, which has multiple English translations, the full text of Tiqqunei ha-Zohar has never before been translated into English or any other Western language in its entirety. However, incomplete English translations of parts of the text do exist elsewhere.

David Solomon, TZM's translator and editor, has sought to recreate the inherent beauty of the source-text Aramaic through a like-for-like documentary translation. His preference for accuracy over poetic interpretation means his translation is clear, accessible, and authentic.
David has used structure and presentation to optimise the reader's ability to engage with the text. For example, in the TZM the Aramaic source text has been rendered into short, accessible lines, in contrast with its traditional presentation as large blocks of text. This rendering is reflected in the English translation, presented in a parallel, mirrored, phrase-by-phrase format.
Breaking up the text ensures readers can easily compare the English translation with its Aramaic equivalent. This carefully designed arrangement also allows the poetic rhythm of the Tiqqunei ha-Zohar to be revealed fully and its meaning more easily uncovered.
Does the Tiqqunei ha-Zohar Margalya translation have haskamot (rabbinical approvals)?
TZM contains those haskamot that were written and given to the 1740 Constantinople edition of Tiqqunei ha-Zohar. It does not include contemporary haskamot. David Solomon’s translation seeks to reflect accurately the language of the source-text Aramaic, in order to create as authentic a translation as possible.
